Seth Burnham
Coach Burnham has been coaching club
and high school volleyball every year since 2001. He has coached the TOHS
boys’ since 2011 and at Highland HS before that. For club volleyball, he has coached both boys
and girls at the following clubs; Antelope Valley VBC [2001-07], Spectrum VBC
[2007-2019], and SMBC-West [2019-current]. He has served as the
divisional representative on the CIF-SS Advisory Committee since 2013, and also
runs the Marmonte Beach League (which started in 2017). In 2018 Coach Burnham
was selected to coach a University level USA National Team (fielded by Athletes
In Action [AIA]), that traveled to Sao Paulo Brazil and competed in the 1st
ever FISU Games.
During his tenure at TOHS Coach Burnham lead the Lancers to
a League Championship in 2022, with 9 CIF playoffs appearances in 12 seasons,
and 6 players advancing to play at the NCAA Division 1 level. In 2011 his Lancers advanced to the CIF
Division 1 Semi-Finals, and qualified for the State Regional Championship
tournament. In 2022, they again advanced
to the CIF Semi-Finals, this time in Division 2.
Personal
In high school, Coach Burnham played basketball and
volleyball, and had division 1 college scholarship offers in each sport.
He ultimately decided to accept a scholarship to play volleyball at UCLA, where
he was part of 3 NCAA National Championship teams ('96, '98, '00), NCAA
National Runner-Up (’97), and was selected to the NCAA Final Four
All-Tournament Team in '00. After college, he played professionally in
Malaga, Spain, and briefly with the USA National Team.
After retiring from the indoor game, Coach Burnham played
professional beach volleyball for almost ten years on the AVP Tour (amongst
other professional tours as well), and for the USA Beach National Team, where
he won a Bronze medal on the NORCECA tour. His last full season on the
pro beach tour was 2010, which was his most successful. That year he achieved the biggest upset
victory in AVP history, with a win over the #2 seed team, as the #31 seed.
Other than volleyball, Coach Burnham also enjoys Cycling,
sneakers, watching sports, and spending time with his wife Monica and their two
kids, Tiago (10 years old) and Mia (7 years old).
