Marlene Wilcox
Coach Marlene Wilcox joins us for her 6th year at Thousand
Oaks. Marlene is a TOHS alumni and brings a lifelong history of track and
field. While at Thousand Oaks she has led the Lancers boys to an undefeated
Marmonte League Championships record and to their first CIF SS Div.2 title in
over 30 years and second in the school’s history. During her time at Thousand
Oaks, she has also coached multiple CIF and Marmonte League Champions in both
the girls’ and boys’ divisions. Under her helm, 5 long standing school records
have fallen in the boys 100m, 110m hurdles, 300m hurdles , 1699m and the 4x100m
relay. As a former Lancer, she won a CIF State Title as well as multiple CIF SS
and Marmonte individual Championships, and she still holds the National
Pentathlon high school record. She earned a spot on the 1980 Olympic team at
the age of 17 as a multi eventer along with the 1983 World Championship Team,
Pan American Team, and a multitude of other national teams. She holds 5 NCAA
National titles and was inducted into the CSLA Athletic Hall of Fame and
Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame. You can still find her name on the Thousand
Oaks and CSUN records board. In recent years, Coach Marlene has been honored to
be a part of the USATF and USOPC National coaching staff serving on the 2022
NACAC, 2023 Pan American, and the 2024 Thorpe Cup Teams. Marlene holds a BS
Degree from Colorado State University in Organizational Leadership and a level
2 USATF coaching certification. She currently serves on the USATF Alumni and
USATF Coaches Advisory Boards and is an active participant in the USATF
Hershey’s Run, Jump, and Throw Program. Marlene has recently joined forces with
“Ready Set Gold” focusing on equal access for every student to the resources
supporting physical health and academic achievement. Marlene has coached at the
youth, high school, and professional levels for the past 20 years and has
helped produce 27 individual CIF Champions, 3 City Champions and a defending
state champion along with many other podium worthy performances. She has helped
facilitate performances on and off the field ensuring the student/athletes with
multiple college scholarship opportunities. Coach Marlene humbly prides herself
as a lifelong student of the sport and is always searching for new approaches
to take her passion to the next level. She is a firm believer that success,
humility, giving back and leadership should be achieved and pursued from the
inside out. Marlene believes that sports on all levels teach invaluable life
lessons by giving tools of critical thinking, learning to use failure as a
catalyst for success, the value of hard work and dedication, vulnerability,
teamwork, trust, integrity, and self-belief.
