Ben McEnroe
With the conclusion of the 2023 football season, Coach
McEnroe completed his 32nd season of coaching football, leading the
Thousand Oaks High School Lancers to a 9-4 record, a share of the Coastal
Canyon League championship, and a birth in the CIF Division 5 semi-finals. McEnroe returned to Thousand Oaks from The
King’s Academy in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he led the Lions to their
first District title in almost two decades.
Prior to that, Coach Mac served as the Head Football Coach at his
collegiate alma mater, California Lutheran University, where he served as the
Head Football Coach from 2007-2021.
During that time, the Kingsmen won five Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships and appeared in the NCAA
Championships four consecutive seasons (2009-2012). Cal Lutheran was ranked in the national Top
25 for more than 40 consecutive weeks from 2009-2013, and sent numerous players
to NFL and CFL opportunities. McEnroe’s
first head coaching position was at Chaminade College Preparatory High School
from 2003-2007, where the Eagles won the highly competitive Mission League
championship and advanced to the CIF Southern Section Division 3 playoffs in
all four seasons. Prior to becoming a
head coach, Coach Mac was an offensive line coach at the collegiate level at
both Humboldt State and Cal Lutheran.
One of Coach Mac’s favorite aspects of coaching is helping
his former players and coaches advance in their careers. Nearly two dozen former players from his high
school coaching career have earned college football scholarships, and three
former players have had successful professional sports careers. Logan Paulsen played 11 seasons in the NFL,
Ryan Griffin played 10 seasons in the NFL, and Kevin Pillar has had an
outstanding career in Major League Baseball.
Coach Mac’s former players from Cal Lutheran include not only
professional athletes, but numerous military personnel (including Special
Operations team members), entrepreneurs and businessmen, lawyers, doctors, and
football coaches. Former members of his
coaching staff have won three Super Bowls and appeared in five Super Bowls,
while two former players are currently college head coaches at the FBS level.
Personal
Coach McEnroe is married to his wife, Kami, since 1995 and
has three children: daughters Kassidy
(TOHS ’16) and Kylie (TOHS ’18), and a son, Cory (TOHS ’25). McEnroe played collegiately at Cal Lutheran
and earned 1st Team All-SCIAC honors as an Offensive Lineman and was
a team captain. He played high school
football at Taft Union High School, where he earned All-Area honors as a
Senior, and was named 1st Team All-South Sequioa League as an
Offensive Lineman and Linebacker, the only player to be named 1st
team all-league on both sides of the ball.
